Lew by email: forward an email, get a reply drafted

Forward an email to lew@in.asklew.com with a line on what to say, like “say yes, Thursday works”. Lew saves a reply in that email’s own thread in your Gmail or Outlook drafts, and emails you back to say it’s there.

Done: a reply to Sarah is in your Gmail drafts, in her thread. It says Thursday at 2 works and you’ll meet her at the front desk.

What Lew does

  • Drafts the reply in the forwarded email’s own thread, from the right account.
  • Answers questions by email too: write to Lew and he replies by email, in the same conversation as the app.
  • Never sends anything by email. Your draft waits in your drafts folder, and in the AskLew app with its Send button.

How to connect

  1. 1Connect your Gmail or Outlook account in Settings → Connections, so Lew can save drafts there.
  2. 2Forward an email to lew@in.asklew.com from the address you sign in with, or from an account you connected.
  3. 3Add a line on what to say above the forwarded message.

What Lew can access

  • Lew only answers mail from your sign-in address or an account you connected, and only when it passes the checks that prove it really came from that address.
  • The email you forward is used for that one reply and isn’t stored. Your conversation keeps what you wrote and a line naming the email.
  • Auto-replies, mailing lists and bounces are never answered.
